Motorola Moto G Pro Android 11 update didn’t fix NFC issue, users suggested to swap device in some regions

The Motorola Moto G Pro was the first device from the company to get the update to Android 11. It first started rolling out to users in the UK and is slowly making its way over to units in other regions.

Motorola is also soak testing Android 11 for a bunch of other devices such as the Motorola One Fusion, One Hyper, and One Action.


Unfortunately, the company has not shared any specific details as to when these or any other eligible device for that matter will get the latest Android version.

Coming back to the Motorola G Pro. Some users have apparently been unable to use the NFC function on their device since the August 2020 security update.

Thank You for Your support and advice. I have the same problem, after last security update probably (august 2020). I have still turned on NFC, the detects it, but it doesn’t work. I tried solve it according Your instructions. NFC worked only few moments after restart (from safe mode), but subsequently NFC cannot detect any tag. (Source)

Just to add that my recently purchased (end August) G8 pro is suffering the same problem with the NFC and Google Pay. It worked fine until early September, then stopped working. Please let me know when you have a fix. Thanks. (Source)

According to affected users, the NFC feature does not work even after performing common troubleshooting steps such as rebooting and factory resetting the device.

And while some Motorola Moto G Pro users hoped that the update to Android 11 will fix the NFC issue, it appears that has not been the case.



The Lenovo-owned smartphone maker has also not been able to figure out what’s causing the problem. Matter of fact, a Senior MotoAgent on the company’s community forums has confirmed that they will replace affected units for users in Europe.



It’s unclear what steps Motorola will take to fix the problem for users outside Europe at the moment. However, the same agent has pointed out that the company will analyze the affected units to find the root cause.

So until Motorola figures out what’s causing the NFC function to stop working on the Motorola Moto G Pro, users will simply have to make do without the feature, at least if outside of Europe.

As usual, we will post an update if and when the company rolls out a fix for the NFC issue on the Motorola Moto G Pro, possibly with upcoming Android 11 builds.
