Xiaomi seems to have taken an oath to just overload MIUI 12.5 with new and exciting features relentlessly. As a result, MIUI has quickly become one of the most feature-packed, advanced Android skins one can lay hands on.

When MIUI 12 was announced last year, it had created plenty of ripples due to its unique interface that was a far cry from Android’s usual Material Design philosophies.

And it was undeniable that the skin had borrowed plenty of cues from iOS. For example, the new Control Center was almost a complete rip-off. However, fast forward to now, and it’s clear that copying iOS was never Xiaomi’s goal.

They wanted to surpass it.

Following MIUI 12’s launch, Xiaomi has only added more and more features to the skin with each new update. This process follows the usual pattern – new features are rolled out to the Chinese beta first on a weekly basis, following which they make it to the stable channel on global variants.

And while new additions have become Xiaomi’s staple diet lately, we do try to highlight every major change. For example, in the past, we covered a story containing a video review of major new MIUI 12.5 features.

That said, Chinese New Year Holidays are just around the corner, and Xiaomi had recently announced that they will be pausing MIUI 12.5 beta development, or possibly any update rollout, from February 8 to February 19.

This means that the recently released MIUI 12.5 21.2.3 and 21.2.4 updates are the last before Xiaomi goes on a lengthy holiday. Therefore, the next MIUI update should be released on 25/26 February.

However, as clear from above, Xiaomi made sure that they left with plenty of new stuff on the table. And while the above only mentions bug fixes, there are also a couple of cool new feature additions too.

Firstly, there’s the new studio lighting on MIUI Camera portrait mode designed to artificially edit some lighting onto a subject for more aesthetically pleasing shots.

Then there’s the new light trails editor on MIUI Gallery. This is quite obviously inspired by long exposure photography which helps to freeze moving lights into long light trails into a single image.

Again, these features are only available in MIUI 12.5 beta as of now but should make it to stable soon. After all, the global announcement of MIUI 12.5 is slated to be held on February 8.

However, if you simply can’t wait to try out the MIUI 12.5 experience, then you will be pleased to know that Xiaomi is now recruiting pilot testers for the same.
