Samsung’s latest iteration of its custom Android skin One UI 3.0 brings about some changes to the Edge Lighting feature that haven’t gone well with its users.

As a result, there have plenty of complaints from dissatisfied users that have called the changes unnecessary. There are also quite a few who are unable to even the Edge lighting settings.

Most of the dissatisfaction can be attributed to the fact that Samsung has renamed the Edge Lighting feature a bit with the latest update.

Samsung now allows notifications to appear in two different styles – brief or detailed. Detailed notifications are the traditional card pop-ups or heads-up notifications that most users are accustomed to.

While brief notifications are what that Samsung has replaced Edge Lighting with. These are also the default setting. It lights up the perimeter of the screen and shows a brief notification containing a couple of lines of info.

So it does appear that not has changed in these two options, apart from their names.

However, there has reportedly been a slight change that is bothering some users. It seems that Edge Lighting cannot be displayed on the lockscreen alone. It either has to enabled at all times or not at all.

Previously, on OneUI 2.5, Edge Lighting offered 3 options when enabled – “Always”, “While screen is off”, or “While screen is on”. This has perhaps been removed with One UI 3.0. And hence, the complaints.

Hopefully, they will roll back these changes, as clearly, they haven’t been for the better.

Where to find the new Edge Lighting settings on One UI 3.0

And in case you are unable to find the now rebranded Edge Lighting settings, just head over to Settings > Notifications > Brief pop-up settings > Edge Lighting style.
