OxygenOS 11 pull-down notification, mistouch prevention, Phone app swipe up, Gallery app bugs, & more in latest OnePlus FAQ

oneplus monthly faq

OnePlus is one of the more communicative brands we have today, building a massive community of users and enthusiasts in the process.

One way OnePlus stays on top of issues is by releasing monthly FAQs, a list of the most asked questions and issues faced by users and what the company is doing.

OnePlus-8T-1

Previous editions of the same saw OnePlus talk about issues such as custom Dark Mode, Gallery app installation/slow loading, Parallel apps and more in the November installment and Android 11 bugs in the October edition.

Well, December is slowly coming to a close, and OnePlus has issued yet another installment in this series in the form of December 2020 OnePlus FAQs.

As expected, many of the questions and issues raised surrounding the company’s new Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 and many of the issues users have been facing, many of which we have highlighted here.

Q: To reject incoming calls on OnePlus 8/8 Pro I have to swipe up, which is confusing.
A: Go to Phone – tap on the three dots menu on the top right – Settings – turn on the “Swipe up to answer”. This will reverse the swipe action to answer incoming calls.

Q: Swiping up and holding on to the home screen opens the quick search menu. Can I disable this function?
A: To prevent mistouch, we added a switch to the latest version of OnePlus Launcher (5.0.2.1). To turn off this switch, please tap and hold on the home screen – enter HOME SETTINGS – Quick search gestures – turn off “Enabled” – Save.

Q: Will the ambient display consume a lot of battery?
A: No. The ambient display is based on the self-luminous feature of the OLED display, which only lightens the respective pixels while the background processor is in the sleep state. Compared to turning the screen on constantly to check the time or other info, AOD display saves more power. Even if it’s enabled for the entire day, the battery drain will not be significantly higher than usual.

Q: Will there be screen burn after enabling always-on display?
A: Canvas AOD will have moderate position adjustment while Insight AOD changes positions from the right, middle and left on the screen. Hence, no need to worry about it.

Zen Mode 2.0.1.0

Zen Mode 2.0.1.0

Q: When will “white noise” be added to Zen Mode?
A: The Zen Mode 2.0.1.0 with five theme sounds is already available on Play Store, available for OnePlus 5 and newer devices.

Q: After upgrading to OxygenOS 11, why do I need to pull down the notification bar to tap the “Clear all” button even when there are several notifications visible.
A: This issue has been optimized in the latest released version, now you can clear all the notifications without scrolling down the notifications. Please update to the latest version and try again.

Q: Why won’t the pictures downloaded from third-party sources show up in Gallery, and are only visible in File Manager?
A: We are glad to inform you that this issue has been resolved, please upgrade the system and update the Gallery to the latest version (4.0.104).

Q: Why does the color of the screen change when unlocking using fingerprint while the protection mode/night mode is turned on?
A: This usually happens when the vision comfort mode is on, as it requires an accurate screen color to unlock the phone. The warm-tone color of the comfort mode might cause issues with unlocking. Therefore, there might be a little inconsistency with the cool or warm tone colors of the screen before and after unlocking.

Another issue that has been vastly brought to the attention of OnePlus has to do with the Snapchat app. We’ve talked about this issue here.

Essentially, some parts of the Snapchat overlap with the system UI, rendering function of the app in the said area inaccessible.

Q: My Snapchat’s bottom and system navigation bar are overlapping after the new update.
A: This may happen due to a compatibility issue with Snapchat. We are actively communicating with their teams about this issue. You can also give feedback to the three-party app to speed up the adaptation. Please wait for the subsequent updates.

It is pretty reassuring for affected users of OnePlus devices to see the company actively addressing many of these issues afflicting them.

We can only hope that other OEMs borrow a leaf from OnePlus moving forward. For now, affected users might want to rest easy, knowing their problems are with OnePlus.
