New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on July 17, 2020) follows:

Modders never get tired of rooting and flashing custom ROMs and recoveries like TWRP as they get more freedom with it than stock Android. Also, using the stock OS can become monotonous after some time which is why some users prefer modding.

A custom recovery is basically a third-party recovery that replaces the pre-installed stock recovery on the device.

Some of the most popular examples of custom recoveries are the TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP), ClockworkMod (CWM), and SkyHawk Recovery (SHRP). These custom recoveries allow you to manually install custom ROMs, create and restore backups, and get root access to your devices.

Recoveries

However, the interfaces of these recoveries are different. For some devices, Clockwork MOD (CWM) can only be controlled through hardware buttons. Whereas TWRP and SHRP support touchscreen inputs and are relatively easier to use.

SkyHawk Recovery (SHRP) is basically a revamped version of TWRP where you can customize the UI of the recovery. Also, there are many device-specific tweaks that it offers. However, it does not support as many devices as TWRP and CWM.

TWRP 3.4.0 is the latest version of the custom recovery and this update also brought some new features such as Zip install – Chaomaster, Fix backup and restore using SAR, and many more. The complete changelog can be found here.

Since its release, official TWRP 3.4.0 support has been provided to many devices while more and more devices continue to receive it. Here’s the list of the devices that have recently received the official TWRP 3.4.0 support:

  1. Asus ZenFone 5Z
  2. Xiaomi Redmi 6
  3. Xiaomi Redmi 6A
  4. BQ Aquaris VS
  5. BQ Aquaris VS Plus
